It was estimated that in the printing industry over 45 trillion pages were being printed in 2005. The printing industry accounted for about $112 billion US dollars according to the Barnes Reports. Printing is one of those essential industries that will be a part of our lives for many years to come.

Printing enables all of us to access the written word of years ago and therefore ensures that no idea would be lost. Knowledge and ideas as well as intellectual printing achievements are saved for later generations. Printing was instrumental in changing the nature of reading in society.

Today printing is almost unthinkable and has completely replaced the hand written word. Handing in of study material, minutes or quotes will simply not be accepted if not in printing form. Handwritten notes and letters has become a somewhat unknown form to printing.
